the parts of the family tree's format changed when i put it through here, but oh well. also, a lot of this is from my notes, which are very casual, in case i write something silly.

apparently i let the word "M********a" slip, i'm sorry to all who saw it, but it has now been violently edited out. again, my bad.

Rhea + Mars
/ \
Romulus Remus (dead)
\
Sabine Women --- Dudes From Rome (not cool)
|
The Romans (Sabines, Albans, Latins, Trojans, Some gods, Wolf)
| |-mix in some etruscan slave
| 9th king :Etruscan: Servius Tullius –(creates census and senate)
| |
| 10th king :Etruscan as well: Tarquinius
| |
Lucretia (merried to brutus) -(rape)- Son: Tarquin (killed by brutus in revenge)
Romulus takes his follows to a land with seven hills, and walls off them, claiming them for the city of Rome. Remus cannot get over the fact that Romulus took the crown, and he proceeds to climb the walls. Romulus kills remus.
They had no women, and they needed some. They invited the entire town of sabine over and killed the husbands and raped the wives. They felt bad, and said they could go, but they did not. It sucks, but that’s how they got woman.
Servius tullius created census, a massive survey of all roman power, and the senate, which represented romans advising the king.
Tarquinius had a sun, let’s call him tarquin. Rome has grown from the tiny mud-ball home into an actual nice brick building city, with a downtown (forum). Nice brick buildings, pavement, and they even took all of the aquifer out with pipes. Its awesome. Not hoppin, but not bad at all.
The etruscans, as the story goes, party hard. Dancing, drinking, all sorts of stuff. They enjoy being wealthy, rather than advancement and hard work. Unlike the orderful hard working (nothing was here) romans. Etruscans would party at night, and romans would weave.
Lucretia is a woman living in rome. She’s the “ideal roman woman”. She is married to brutus. One night, tarquin is hammered. He went looking around in roman windows, for the fun of it. He sees Lucretia working alone, in a serine way. He does something unthinkable. Lucretia is so dishonored by this, that she ends up committing suicide.
Brutus, as a way to avenge his wife, kills off tarquin and creates the current government. In a way, it is meant to symbolize that etruscans are living off of and destroying rome, on a whole new level. After the kill of Tarquin, there were no more kings of rome, it became completely democratic for a time.

Importiant Positions
JOBS
Consuls
They are the leaders, can become dictators, if shit gets really bad.
Praetor
They are the head of the judicial system in place.
(magistrates)
They act as mayors for legions of rome

They survey rome to find out important information about it’s wealth
Tributes
They guard the rights of the plebians and they be plebebians.
The Senate
They act as a government party and do government stuffs, they have veto power.
Aediles

Questers
Treasurers.
DICTATORS
Ultimate head honcho in the case of serious biz, they get ultimate power if truly nessacary. They get elected for short periods of time, normally from the consuls
Patricians
They are the wealthier upper class romans, they were born into this social caste.
Plebians
Upper class romans.

HOW ROME WAS FOUNDED

The myth begins in Troy, four hundred years before Rome was founded. Aneas was the one of the three survivors of the war, he was saved by his mother Venus. He goes to Carthage and enters and affair with Dido then leaves for Italy. Once in Italy he settles in the Latin area and marries the king’s daughter, Larinia.
Aneas’s grand sons rule Latin, but Amlius is jealous or Numerators rule. He expels him from the throne and kills his sons. He is never exepted as a ruler because he was not strong enough to kill his brother. however he sends his niece Rhea, to become a vestal virgin, priestess of the goddess Vista. The priestesses of the vestal virgins are chosen are girls from the ages of 6 to 10 it is an honor the that is given to the most beautiful wealthy girls. But they cannot have sex or love until they are forty. However you are granted with the power to stop executions and pardon someone of crime, and have a small voice in politics.
However, if you disobey the rules you are buried alive. Mars the god of war raped Rhea and impregnated her. This would usually result in death, but Rhea lived to birth her children. Her twins, Romulus and Remus, were placed in a basket and left to die as a punishment. The newborns were found by a She-wolf and were raised by her.
Once they had grown up they set out with a group of men to found Rome. They picked a place, but did not know who to name king. After denying the priests ruling, Remus attempted to kill Romulus but was instead slaughtered.
The twins represented every thing a good Roman man should have. Bravery, strong, enduring, disciplined, a survivor, they were born warriors from there father, beautiful from there grandmother, family oriented from there mothers occupation, and violent beasts from there surrogate mother.

Symbloism

The birth of the Roman Republic.

Rape= creation
Rape of Rhea= birth of Romulus= Rome
Rape of the Sabine woman= population of Rome
Rape of Lucretia= roman republic

Lucritia was the perfect roman woman. She was beautiful, disaplind, obedient, honorable, respectful, and vurtius. This was the time of the 10th and last king of the Etruscan holding on Rome, Tarquin.
Etruscan’s were the opposite of romans, indulgent heavy drinkers and above all partiers. Tarquin had a son Tarquin (2). One night Tarquin (2) was drunk and looking in people’s windows. He found Lurictia, she was to perfect so he destroyed her. He raped her.
Lucritia killed her self in dishonor. He husband blamed Tarquin (1 & 2) and led a revolution against the Etruscan.
After over throwing the rule, the romans established a new government.
A democracy.

Jobs for Patricians Established in 509 BCE

Patricians-
Were originally the wealthy people of Rome. However, although most patricians had a lot of money and land they could have nothing and still be patricians. The status was decided when the ninth king Serius Tullius asserted the census, which made to two categories. Plebian and Patrician.

Counsel-

Tribunes-
The three elected plebeians that represent the plebs

Aedile-

POWER ORDER

Dictator contorled every one
|
the counsel elected and aprooved/disaprooved the sentet
| |
The senet could veto ideas before they reached the councle and had control over wars and capital punish ment the councle did not. But the councle still could tell them what to do
| |
The comitia centuries had to run every thing buy the senet but had a say in what the senate did as well
| |
The censors informed the comitia centuries and had influence in the rankings but the final say was not theirs.
| |
The magistrates are the elected officials with power for short periods of time, they had little power but they did affect the plebian government
| |
Quaestors acted as informants for the magistrates and after the informing they had little say in what happened to the information, however they had influence in the adeails actions
| |
The adeails influence in the re-election of the tribune of the plebs but mostly were fairly powerless
| |
The tribune of plebs had massive influence over the plebian segment of the government but none the less had to answer to the senet.

and-done Very Happy Idea

Soo I'm not sure if we got any information/sheets regarding maps or locations, but if we did, I am not currently aware of them.. however, what I think I remember is:

- Aeneas left Troy after it was destroyed and sailed to Carthage (where he had an affair with Dido - queen of Carthage)
- Later, he left Carthage and traveled to Italy(?) where Rome was founded

Know where these are on a map:

(page 59)
- Mediterranean Sea
- Carthage
- Italy
- Rome
(page 118)
- Tiber River
- the 7 hills (quirinal, viminal, cispian, oppian, caelian, palatine, aventine)
- various parts of the Forum
- defensive wall
- temples?

Values (probably good to know a few of these):

- history
- real romans are trojans
- themselves and people around them
- survivors
- bravery and warfare
- endurance
- born from war, tough
- war as a way of life
- power and control
- kill or be killed
- god's will
- destiny
- home/hearth/family
- complexity
- order
- strategic
- beauty
- people aren't supposed to be equal
- pride

People to know:

- Venus = goddess of beauty, mother of aeneas
- Aneas = first Trojan/their leader, half god, had affair with queen of carthage, married lavinia
- Lavinia = daughter of latinus, married aeneas
- Latinus = king of the latins
- Ascanius = son of aeneas and lavinia
- Amulius = decedent of ascanius, overthrew his brother numitor for the throne and forcing rhea silivia (his daughter) to become a vestal virgin
- Numitor = got overthrown (and killed?) by his brother amulius, was the father of rhea silvia
- Rhea Silvia = forced to be a vestal virgin, raped by the god Mars, had romulus and remus, was buried alive as punishment for losing her virginity
- Vesta = goddess of the home, hearth and family. rhea silvia become almost like a priestess to her when she becomes a vestal virgin
- Mars = god of war, rapes rhea, father of romulus and remus
- Romulus = raised by she-wolf after being dumped in a river, son of rhea and mars, became king/founder of rome (75314 BCE) after more vultures flew over him (sign from gods), killed his brother
- Remus = same upbringing as romulus, had less vultures fly over him, tried to invade rome, got killed by his brother
- Sabine women = got raped by roman men because they needed women for rome, lured their families to rome, killed husbands, used sabine wives to make children to populate rome
- Servius Tullius = 9th king of rome, started the cencus and the senate, he was etruscan
- Tarquin = son of 10th king of rome (tarquinius), raped lucretia
- Lucretia = perfect roman woman, husband was brutus, raped by tarquin for being so annoyingly perfect, killed herself afterward for bringing so much shame on the family
- Brutus = husband of lucretia, after she commits suicide, leads romans to overthrow etruscans and start the roman republic (509 BCE)

Signifigance of different terms/people/events:

- Rape: represents dishonor/destruction, leads to repercussions, leads to the creation of rome. without the rape of rhea silvia by mars, romulus never would've founded rome. without the rape of the sabine women, rome never would've had children to continue the small town to the great city it would be, and without the rape of lucretia, the etruscans never would've been overthrown and rome turned into a republic.

- Romulus and Remus: because of their relationships/connections with woves and gods, they themselves represent many things such as beauty, war, hearth, home, family, warrior traits, intelligent, killers, etc.

- The Vultures: the 6 vultures that flew over remus and the 12 over romulus represented many things. the birds themselves represented strength, killers, power, a crown of sorts-crowning the true king, a message sent by the gods, destruction, scavengers, ect. the fact that 6 flew over remus first could act as a sort of foreshadowing of death and scavenging to be king. the 12 that flew over romulus represents more killing power, more strength, more power/control. the fact that they both had vultures also embodies the idea of competition, (theme of rome).

Here's my study guide:

Timeline:

1200-1800 BCE: Trojan War ( Archaens or Greeks vs. Trojans) Homer also wrote the Illiad. ( One of the first things that sent the founding of Rome into motion.)

753/4 BCE: Romulus found Rome ( only as a tiny village then)

509 BCE: Brutus leads the Romans into an overthrow of the Etruscan king, after Tarquin raped his wife, Lucretia --> Founding of Rome Republic

Values of Rome:

Since Rome was found by Romulus, it had all the things that he was as its values. These were: wolf, warrior, strength, endurance, bravery, vigilance, pride, care, beauty, home, war, confidence, strategy, order, organization, leadership, focus, and obedience, kill or be killed, god's will, destiny(vultures,) no intrusions tolerated.Power wasn't based on the money you had. Power= wealth and status. All of these things were important. One of the most important things was group before the individual.

Important People or Places:

Romulus (754 BCE): Romulus killed his brother, who was also vying to create a city. By doing this, he set into motion all of the things that Rome valued ( see above paragraph.)

Lucretia and Rhea Silvia: (509 and around 730 BCE) Both women were raped. Both of these rapes led to some sort of dishonor or destruction. The destruction led to repercussions, which led to the creation of Rome.

Tarquin (509 BCE): Tarquin was an Etruscan prince who was a hard "partier." This embodies the difference between the Romans and the Etruscans. Etruscans partied while Romans worked. Tarquin raped Lucretia, who was Brutus's wife. For revenge, Brutus overthrew the Etruscans and brought Rome back under the power of Romans.

Servius Tullius (9th Etruscan king): He started the census, which started the senate. This was the thing that set Rome's government going. He was the son of a king and a slave, so he understood both sides of the spectrum in terms of class and money.

Aeneas (1100 BCE): He was one of only two Trojans spared in the Trojan War. His mom was Venus, the god of beauty, and since all Romans came from him, they all valued beauty.

Here is a super helpful graph I found about Roman government:
